What Is the MegaMax Duramax?
First, an important clarification:
“MegaMax” is not currently an official General Motors engine name.
The MegaMax nickname originated in media coverage surrounding reports that GM was developing a larger heavy-duty Duramax diesel engine. Those reports have included speculation about an engine with significantly more displacement and output than today’s 6.6L L5P Duramax.
GM has not officially confirmed that its new L6P Duramax is the rumored MegaMax engine.
Until more information becomes available, we use the MegaMax name to refer broadly to the rumored next generation of GM heavy-duty diesel development that we’re following.
